Golf in Gastein

Nestled at the head of the Gastein Valley lies one of the oldest golf clubs in Austria. It was built in 1960 as a 9-hole course according to the plans of the German golf architect Bernhard von Limburger. He was a busy man - there are 74 new designs and 10 revisions known from his design work. The specialty of "Limmy," as he was nicknamed, was the use of clusters and rows of trees that seem to obstruct the line of play, narrow fairways, and small, difficult-to-start greens. Scattered water hazards and ditches are used only sporadically and on a rather small scale, encouraging strategic, accurate play. This is also the case on this course at the gateway to the Hohe Tauern National Park.

In 2002, the course was expanded to 18 holes. A very successful, harmonious expansion - as golfers confirm again and again. So don't be distracted by the impressive mountain scenery - the 18-hole course requires full concentration. The successful alternation of hilly fairways, more undulating greens in perfectly maintained condition with the old tree population and the breathtaking view provide a lasting memory not only on a sporting level. An attraction of the course is hole 14 ¬- called the Eagle's Nest. Even for experts, the "postage stamp-sized" green is a challenge. The rather exposed tee gives this hole its name
